Fana kofta knitted by Gunnvor in the 1940s from a pattern by Sandnes Ullgarnfabrikk detail of collar and front button. The garment is lined with checked cotton fabric to make it more wind-proof Detail of buttonhole loops The cotton liner also contains a useful pocket - less likely to stretch than one knitted in! detail of rolled hem. Detail of armpit - a giveaway that she was not working in the pure traditional style - the sleeve is knitted from the cuff and sewn in. Detail of the inside of arm-setting - the sewn seam is bound to reduce wear. A machine -made kofte from Stavanger trikotasjefabrikk THis garment was probably made for the tourist trade as it is labelled in English! I bought this garment in England in a charity shop for the princely sum of £2.50! A dead giveaway - the seam on the underside of the arm - this garment was made in flat pieces and sewn up afterwards Machine sewing and overcasting on seams and buttonholes Cheap buttons and a machine made woollen trim finish this garment - it's still a great cardigan and I'm very fond of it! You can see who thinks the photo-session was entirely for his benefit! These garters were fingerwoven in Sirdal in the 1940s using natural dyes A nice chained finish to the ends of these garters which are woven starting in the middle and then working to the ends. Rich colours and some of the best finger-weaving I've ever seen - wish I could do half as well!
